CATHERINE REEVES
Colour and Form in the Everyday
This collection is based on the concept of a print design being unique, a one-off, apiece of art in itself and draws inspiration from various artists, looking mainly atstill life paintings. It is an exploration of colour and basic form, to create unique patterns, drawing inspiration from everyday objects. This collection references the work of various artists, such as Matisse, Sonia Delaunay, Joan Miro and Ellsworth Kelly, by exploring the way in which they produce their work. In particular the way they apply paint, by layering it onto a canvas to achieve blocks of colour whilst still retaining texture within these shapes, and also their use of collage and paper cut outs. It is these artists liberal use of colour and their ability to break down and simplify objects into shapes, which has been the main inspiration behind the mood of this collection.
