HILARY OWEN
Metamorphosis
‘Metamorphosis’ is based on the change of both natural and man made forms to creatediverse shapes and tactile textures. Contrasting and morphing surfaces such as smashed glass, peeling paint and decaying food are influences, with emphasis on juxtapositions: soft and rough, strong and weak and shiny and matte. Dispelling limitations of bias and directional knitting, the fluid shapes created when draped on the body are the core concepts of the design. The exploration into the behaviour of knit and how stitch manipulation can form a shape that fits and works in unison with the body is a key design concept. The collection incorporates silk, mohair and cashmere to create a luxury range of knitwear in soft neutrals that fully envelops the concept of ‘Metamorphosis’.
