ELMINA FORS
Knitting a Message
Art and fashion, as well as the traditional textile crafts, evolve with us and reflect the social, political and personal changes we all go through, as a society and as individuals. The patterns we dress ourselves in reflect the kind of society we are part of, how we live our lives, what we see and what we are inspired by. To express ourselves through imagery is a timeless practice. This is partly why knitted patterns are so interesting to me. Expressing a message using stitches and all the limitations and possibilities they offer, is what this collection is about. How does one express a mood, or even opinions, using knitting?Inspired by traditional Fair Isle patterns and garments, as well as wool embroidery and folk imagery, this collection is about celebrating the traditions of knitwear whilst investigating the use of contemporary imagery in knitted patterns.
