Material Perception
Material perception’ is a collection of acoustic fabrics made from assorted materials and fibres withsound absorbing/reflecting properties.Following a sustainable imperative this project challenges the misconception of material by exploring the spectrum of accepted value and overlooked waste in terms of material and fibre use.Unconventional materials and eco-waste will be brought together to create innovative woven textiles and to explore their acoustic properties.Following a very experimental approach this project explores the acoustic absorption/reflection potential of materials by working with sculptural weave structures and creating textiles with three dimensional effects. In order to create a collection of 3D acoustic fabrics which can be used as independent wall panels this study is built around continuous trial and error processes to explore a broad fibre study in an acoustic context. Inspired by architecture and interior environments, professional quality is coupled with a love for weaving to create intriguing weaves on the cutting edge of art, interior design and architectural design.
