DIONNE KNIGHT
Lo-fi Hi-fi
A casual women’s-wear collection for S/S; inspired by technology, glitches and ‘the broken’. What happens when technology fails and what beautiful inconsistencies can be both found and purposely recreated? The title ’Lo-fi Hi-fi’ connects to the grade of production quality given to recorded sounds and images; and considers the main concept of contrasts. Throughout the entire collection, all fabrics portray the underlying theme of contrasts through the mix of synthetic and natural yarns, and block warp set-ups. High shine yarns such as lurex and polyester are twinned with matte cottons and wools to reinforce the Lo-fi Hi-fi ideas. Other contrasts can be seen through a mix of fabric weights and the use of hand finishing techniques such as dip-dying, painted warps and foiling; against the usual formalities of woven textiles. Pastels are paired with fluoro highlights and graphic designs, bringing a fresh but clean feel to the collection.
