ZENA HAMON
Capturing Moments of Nature
This project explores the natural environment and draws inspiration from Japanese Ukiyo-e art and Scandinavian landscapes artists. Ukiyo-e translates to ‘floating world’ and the art aims to preserve fleeting moments. The fascination lies in the way we constantly try to capture moments within nature. Visual research and sketchbook work is a combination of nature in motion and when stopped in time, through chosen momentary mediums such as photography and location drawing. Imagery of trees, plants, birds, fish and water have been mainly sourced for design development. A photograph can preserve moments in its current state and location drawing or drawing from sourced imagery, especially with inks, can spontaneously capture nature in a freer form. The prints hope to evoke an ethereal mood, as the project interprets its own version of a ‘floating world’.
